Georgina Sanchez-Sanchez, beloved family Matriarch passed away peacefully at her home in Providence, on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Born on February 17, 1933 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, Georgina, known by her family and friends as "Gina" lived many years traveling between Puerto Rico and Rhode Island, treasuring both. Proud mother to Hilda Rivera, Rosa Maria Rivera and Jose A. Rivera (deceased) and stepmother to Jose U. Rivera and Jose Luis Rivera. She was the first daughter of Maria Lucila and Jose Antonio Sanchez and sister to Rosa M. "Rosin", Elizabeth "Ely", Maria "Margo" (deceased) and Jose Antonio "Toñin" Sanchez (deceased). She leaves behind ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was a remarkably tough, independent and hard-working woman. She lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and worker in sales and manufacturing. She was known for her spitfire personality and quick comebacks. Everyone always knew where you stood with her. She could recommend a natural remedy for every illness and she had a saying for every situation. She loved doing crossword puzzles, she was an avid seamstress and loved the colors red and purple but most of all protecting and being with the people she loved. "Ita Gina" will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Family and friends may pay respects on Sunday March 1, 2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, Rhode Island 02865. Burial services will take place Monday, March 2,2020 at 10:00am at the North Burial Ground Cemetery located at 700 N Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
