Joseph Grant, 71, died at Orchard View Manor in East Providence on Wednesday, April 15,
2020, after contracting the corona virus, and suffering complications of the disease. He was the husband of Susanne (Beaudette Marcotte) Grant.
A lifelong resident of Central Falls, Joseph enlisted in the Air Force, and served as an airplane mechanic during tours in Vietnam and Taiwan. Returning home, he was employed by Corning Glassworks, GTE, and Osram-Sylvania in Central Falls, retiring in 2002 after working at the companies for more than 30 years.
He joined local Rhode Island runners during the 1970s, and ran five marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice. His Catholic faith was very important to him, and he found solace in praying the Rosary daily, even when he could no longer attend Mass.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne, two step-daughters, Alicia Favela and husband Brian of Sutton, MA, and Jessica Kidd of North Providence, RI, and grandchildren Shannon and Kyle Favela. He is also survived by his sister Joan Robert and her husband Roland of Berkley, MA, brother Thomas Grant, of Tiverton, RI, nephews Jason and Derek Robert, as well as a large extended family through marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph P. and Evelyn (Ramsay) Grant.
Because of the current Covid-19 restrictions, funeral services are private. A memorial service and Mass will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joseph's name to Camp Ker-Anna, 500 Reservoir Road, Cumberland, RI 02864.
