Mr. Jesus "Alberto" Oquendo, age 74, passed on Friday, April 17, 2020, due to complications from kidney failure, after having endured many years of dialysis. He was born February 6, 1947, in Barranquilla, Colombia, to Alicia Andrade and Enrique Oquendo. Alberto originally immigrated to the US, via Queens, New York in 1969, and ultimately made his home in Pawtucket, RI, in 1986. Alberto worked as a General Cable Machine Operator for Carol Cable Manufacturing for 22 years.
Alberto was mostly a quiet man; however, some of his favorite pastimes were spending time reminiscing and telling jokes with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren. In his youth, Alberto developed a passion for playing sports, specifically soccer. His love for the game continued throughout his life, as he rooted for his beloved team, "El Junior, de Barranquilla."
Alberto is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sra. Nidia Oquendo, his son, Mr. Holmes Oquendo, and his wife, Edna; grandchildren Julio, Jazlyn, and Jaleah; brother, Fernando Oquendo, and his wife, Carmen; among seven other siblings; nephew, Rene Marin Oquendo, and niece, Malin Marin-Bean, and her husband, Brandon, and 19 other nieces and nephews. Alberto was preceded in death by his brother, Sr. Alfredo Dominguez, and sisters, Sra. Julia Gutierrez and Sra. Edith S. Marin Oquendo.
Alberto will be laid to rest in Swan Point Cemetery. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus social distancing measures, no services will be held.
The family respectfully asks that you, please keep Alberto in your thoughts and prayers.
