In the early morning hours of Friday, April 24, 2020, Chue Toua (Seng) Kue, passed peacefully at home with his devoted wife of over 50 years by his side. Born in Phan Bon, Laos, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chang Nha Kue. He came to the US in 1979 in search of a better life for his family, escaping persecution as a result of the Secret War.
Chue truly lived a blessed life and was known for his sense of adventure, wisdom and leadership. He was an eloquent speaker and would recount his war stories and life in Laos to many eager ears. He spoke of his time as a brave soldier trained by the US CIA serving valiantly and honorably in the Secret War. A master Qeej player as well as one of the few experts on all aspects of the Hmong culture, he regularly lent his skills to teach the next generation. He treasured time spent with family more than anything and enjoyed a friendly game of gin and family dinners. He was an avid fan of WWE, tennis, all Hmong sporting events and Hmong bull fighting. As a New Englander, he acquired quite a palate for seafood and occasionally indulged in his guilty pleasure, the Whopper Jr., no onions and no cheese.
He is survived by his loving wife, Youa Yang Kue, his four sons, Tou (Chong Nou) Kue and wife Lee of Cranston RI, Xang (Ntxhws) Kue and wife Bea of Fresno, CA, Houa Kue and wife Maiker of Providence, RI, Gerry Kue and wife Pagnia of Cumberland, RI as well as his two daughters Yeu Kue and husband Piseth Khun of Smithfield, RI and Mary Kue and partner Stephen Arruda of Riverside, RI; 13 grandchildren, Chai, Nha, Bee, Pangzong, Kengsu, Ronan, Yeng Houa, Chia Shi, Yeng Kong, Yeng Kou, Yeng Keng Kue and Alex and Wyatt Khun. He was preceded in death by his brother Xao Long Kue but leaves his brother Xia Xeu Kue along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews and the extended Hmong community that viewed him as a father figure. As a trusted elder of the Hmong community, he provided direction and guidance for those in need. He leaves behind a void that could never be replaced but his legacy will live on in all those who were graced by his presence.
Due to the current conditions, services will be held on May 23, 2020 at Keefe Funeral Home in Lincoln, RI from 9AM-12PM and will abide by social gathering rules. Funeral to follow directly after, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence, RI. The Kue family fully understands that there are many who wish to pay their respects but understand that safety remains our primary concern for all. The service will be live streamed and at a later date, all will be invited to a celebration of life for Chue.
