Charles A. Tanner Jr., 84, passed away peacefully in Providence on April 30, 2020. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Levesque) Tanner. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret Tanner. Charles lived in Providence most of his life before moving to West Warwick.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, later serving in Germany, and a life member of the American Legion Post 2. He was also a member of the Army boxing team and won the division title. After serving his country Charles worked for the Providence Post Office, where he was an illustrator and sign painter.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Tanner and wife Jean of Pawtucket, Charles Tanner and wife Christine of Smithfield; three grandchildren, Vincent, Joseph, and Yvonne Tanner; four siblings, Jon Tanner of Johnston, Dennis Tanner of Pawtucket, Diane Harripesard of Maine, Lyla Fergerson of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Daniel Tanner; brother of the late Margaret Burns, Dorothy Tanner, Russell Tanner, Sue Kilchriss; and grandfather of the late Daniel Tanner.
Funeral services are private.
