Constance M. Johnson January 2, 2021

Constance M. Johnson passed away peacefully on January 02, 2021 at the Miriam Hospital. Connie was born June 30, 1926 in Central Falls to the late Clarence and Mary (Geraghty) Leonard. She was the oldest of four children.
During her lifetime she worked at a local Five and Dime in Pawtucket, as a teacher at Notre Dame, and as a Social worker for the State of Rhode Island. She made a career of the latter for over 20 years.
In her “retired years”, Connie worked for the City of Pawtucket at the Slater park Carousel and the Lynch Arena. She was also tremendously involved in her church, St. Leo the Great, now known as St. John Paul ll. For over 30 years, she volunteered in various roles including accepted clothing donations, teaching CCD, and working in the food pantry.
Around her 91st birthday, Connie decided to officially retire from all her volunteer work to take time for herself and her family.
Connie was a creative woman. She could sew a wedding dress by hand, crochet a blanket, needlepoint a pillow, and flawlessly accessorize any outfit. She also enjoyed cooking many items from scratch, her specialties included meat pies and baked beans.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed any opportunity for a social gathering.
Connie leaves behind Roland Johnson, her loving husband of 72 years. She is survived by three children, Joanne Kocima and her husband John, Steven Johnson and his wife Joanne, and David Johnson. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathleen (Johnson) Barboza and her husband Joseph.
In addition, Connie leaves behind nine grandchildren: Joseph Barboza Jr. and his wife Jessica, Connie Willetts, Christopher Barboza, Michael Kocima and his wife Elisa, Colleen Barboza and her husband Robert, Crystal Johnson, Eric Johnson, Gregory Barboza, and Keith Barboza; six great-grandchildren: Kathleen Willetts, Hannah Willetts, William Barboza, Steven Clinton, Logan Cartwright, and Liam Barboza. She is also survived by one sister Joan Johnson and was predeceased by her two brothers George Leonard and John Leonard.
She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday January 15, 2020, at 11:00am at Cecilia’s Church building (St. John Paul II Parish) in Pawtucket, RI. A private burial will be held at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to be considered.
