Lula M. (Whetstone) Smith, 88, died peacefully at home on January 26, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Rev. John B. Whetstone and Mamie Motley Whetstone.
Born in Prattville, Alabama on August 17, 1932, Mother Smith lived in Providence most of her life. She was a proud member of the New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C. for many years. She was beloved to all who knew her. Mother Smith will always be remembered for her caring ways toward others and her faithful service to the Lord.
Mother Smith leaves to cherish her memories three daughters – Susan M. Hall (James), Veronica L. Smith and Carol L. Smith all of Providence; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; a sister Sharon Weeden of Wilmington, NC and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family. She also leaves a close cousin Sylvia Brantley. She was preceded in death by her husband George R. Smith, daughter Delores A. Madyun, and granddaughter Monique M. Smith. She was also predeceased by two very special aunts - Mother Lizzie Cook of Providence, RI and Mrs. Eloise Duncan of Prattville, AL.
