Manuel Gomes Delgado, 54, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Manny was born in Brava, Cape Verde. He came to the US when he was 7 years old with his mother and 2 younger brothers. Manny was a humble man with a kind, loving and gentle soul. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor and sharp wit. It was nearly impossible to be around him without laughing and feeling happy.
Manny loved his family dearly but most of all he loved his Mom. No one could take the place of his Mom. He would often tell people “She’s my everything. She’s my number one lady!†He radiated whenever he spoke of her.
Manny worked as a landscaper and loved his craft. His hobbies included basketball, listening to music and trying new foods. His favorite player is Magic Johnson and his favorite team is the Lakers. He loved his Cape Verdean music and was still singing just a few days before he passed. Manny had a passion for ethnic food. He was always willing to try something new. His favorite foods were Cachupa, Bacalhau and Thiebou Djeun.
Those closest to Manny will tell you he had the best memory of anyone they knew. With over 200 family members, Manny always remembered each and everyone’s birthday. From his elders to his younger cousins, even generations apart, he never forgot a birthday.
Manny is preceded in death by his father, Teontonio Delgado. He leaves behind his mother, Domingas Fortes of Pawtucket, his brothers Jamie Delgado of Central Falls, Edgar Delgado and sister-in-law Nuesa Fortes of Pawtucket, Antonio Santos Fortes of Holland, sister Maria Helena van Gilst of Holland, stepsister Maria DeBurgo of East Providence, 5 nieces, 3 nephews, a great niece and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
If we could all see the world from Manny’s eyes, we would see its beauty and live life to the fullest. His smile, laughter and memory will live in our hearts forever.
The family respectfully requests a private service.
