Esperanza Gutierrez passed away 3/30/21 peacefully at home surrounded by family, eleven days shy of her 96th birthday. She is survived by her 6 children: Tarquinio, Rodrigo, Palmelida, Elena, Jaime and Ivan; 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great great granddaughters. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Hector Gutierrez and her youngest son, Jairo Gutierrez.
“Ope” as she was lovely known by her family and friends, will be sorely missed. In particular, her wittiness, delicious cooking, laughter, fun and loving personality. She loved having family gatherings, babysitting, going to the beach, gardening, shopping and getting her hair and nails done.
Ope was the epitome of strength, resilience, and unconditional love for her loved ones. As the matriarch of her large family, she made the sacrifice of leaving her beloved home in Barranquilla, Colombia to immigrate to the U.S. to join them. Ope was widely known in Colombia for her cooking and hospitality.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, April 6th at 8am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Spirit Parish, Dexter St., Central Falls at 9am. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Dagget Ave., Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited. Please note that masks will be required. Visitation will be held Monday, April 5th from 4pm until 7pm.


Esperanza Gutiérrez falleció el 3/30/21 tranquilamente en su casa rodeada de su familia, le faltaban once días para cumplir 96 años. Le sobreviven sus 6 hijos: Tarquinio, Rodrigo, Palmelida, Elena, Jaime e Iván; 20 nietos, 28 bisnietos y 2 bisnietas. Su esposo de 72 años, Héctor Gutiérrez y su hijo menor, Jairo Gutiérrez fallecieron anteriormente.
"Ope", como era cariñosamente conocida por su familia y amigos, será muy extrañada. En particular, se le extrañara su picardía, su forma de cocinar, su sonrisa, y su personalidad divertida y amorosa. Le encantaba las reuniones familiares, cuidar a sus nietos y bisnietos, ir a la playa, cuidar de sus plantas, ir de compras y hacerse el pelo y las uñas.
Ope fue el epítome de la fuerza, la resiliencia y el amor incondicional por sus seres queridos. Como matriarca de su familia numerosa, hizo el sacrificio de dejar su querida casa en Barranquilla, Colombia, para emigrar a estados Unidos para reunirse a ellos. Ope era popularmente conocida en Colombia por sus comidas y hospitalidad.
Su funeral se llevará a cabo el martes 6 de abril a las 8 de la mañana en la Funeraria Keefe, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln con una Misa de Entierro Cristiano en la Parroquia del Espíritu Santo, Dexter St., Central Falls a las 9:30am. El entierro será en el cementerio de Notre Dame, Dagget Ave., Pawtucket. Se invita a familiares y amigos. Se requerirán máscaras. Las visitas se realizarán el lunes 5 de abril de las 4pm a las 7pm.
