Angelo A. Nunes, 85, of Pawtucket, passed away on April 27th at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Benvinda (Sousa Tavares) Nunes. They had been married for over 60 years. Born in Matanca, Portugal, a son of the late Alfredo Nunes and Emilia Amaro.
He joined the Portuguese military at 19 years old and then moved to Brazil where he met the love of his life. They married in 1960. In 1973 he moved to the United States, settling in Central Falls, Cumberland and then Pawtucket. He was employed as a machine operator for North East Cable in South Attleboro, retiring in 2000. Angelo had a passion for spending time with family, especially his granddaughter. He loved watching soccer and was a dedicated Benfica fan. Everyone who knew him knew he had an infectious smile and a heart of gold.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his son, Andre Nunes and his wife Florence of Las Vegas, NV, and his daughter, Angela Vargas and her husband Jose and his loving granddaughter Isabela Vargas, with whom he resided with. He was the brother of Conceicao Rocha of Miami, FL, Maria Meyer and her husband Juan of Pawtucket, and Virgilio Sena and his wife Eduarda of Portugal. He was the brother of the late Maria Do Carmo, Maria Do Anjos and Alfredo Sarraiva all of Portugal, Jose Pina of Taunton, MA, John Pina of Pawtucket, RI, Carlos Nunes and Augustinho Nunes of Brazil. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Ana Aragao and her husband Sal.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 5th from 4:00 – 7:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 6th at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Relatives and friends are invited.
