Rita M. Scanlon, 93, a lifelong resident of Central Falls, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Hope Hospice in Providence on July 28, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Robert J. Scanlon Sr. for 31 years. Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late Paul E. and Alma B. (Gouin) Barthe.
Rita was a lifelong and devout parishioner of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church on Dexter Street in Central Falls. She worked for Lebanon Mills, Royal Electric Manufacturing Industry and Cable Manufacturing Company in Pawtucket, R.I. for many years until her retirement. She was an avid Bingo player, never missing Sunday Bingo, and also enjoyed cribbage, pinochle, puzzles, scrabble, and baking, especially her oatmeal cookies and banana bread. She adored all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. Scanlon Jr.; five grandchildren, Robert J. Scanlon III and wife Nicole, Joseph A. Scanlon and wife Katie, Stephanie Scanlon and husband Kenny, Christina Scanlon, Christopher Scanlon and wife Erica; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Lembo; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late James Scanlon and wife Elaina Scanlon.
Calling hours will be Sunday, August 1st from 3:00 – 5:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 2nd at 9:30am in Holy Spirit Parish, Dexter St., Central Falls. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Daggett Ave., Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited.
