Noemia Soraia Segredo Baptista aka Nu, Nammy, Manha, Nancy unexpectedly passed away at the age of 29 at her home in Washington, D.C. She is the daughter of Pedro and Isolina Baptista. Noemia Soraia is survived by her grandmothers Marcelina Costa Baptista and Maria Rosa Neves Segredo, her parents Isolina and Pedro Baptista, her sisters, Carlina Soraia and Eliana Soraia Segredo Baptista, her puppy Albus "Albi" Dumbledore, her two "sisters from other misters," Whitney Briggs and Laetisha Jean- Pierre, a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, god children and COUNTLESS friends.
Noemia Soraia was born in Providence, RI on June 8th, 1992 and raised in Pawtucket, RI. Noemia Soraia is and always has been a scholar; from winning the Fallon Memorial Elementary School Leadership Award to being the first in the family to graduate high school, (a Tolman Tiger for life) to graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and, with honors from The University of District of Columbia. Prior to her move, Noemia Soraia received her certification in Paralegal Studies. Quickly, Noemia fell in love with the law. She began working at a law firm in Warwick, RI before transitioning to Washington D.C. to accept her new role as a tax analyst.
Noemia is a volunteer with the Woodbridge, VA food bank. She is a Black Lives Matter Advocate and a Mental Health Advocate. Noemia always makes sure her opinion, facts and voice is heard. Noemia whole heartedly cares about her community and giving back.
She enjoys tapping into different creative mediums from drawing, to painting, to writing poetry; and if you know anything about Noemia, then you know that woman has a MEAN PEN! and her penmanship is phenomenal! Noemia also loves to read; she can read an entire Harry Potter book in 1 day (she is obsessed with Harry Potter). Noemia is a sucker for a good brunch and she LOVES to bake; she can bake anything really but she really enjoys making banana bread like her Tia Nena. Noemia is queen of naps and cuddles; she can make anyone to feel comfy and safe. Like any true Rhody Girl, she is obsessed with Dunkin and her favorite is a coconut caramel iced coffee with cream no sugar. Noemia enjoys long drives to no where, whether it’s just to talk and clear our minds or to jam out to some of her favorites songs. Noemia is a traveler, she is happiest when she’s near a beach.
Noemia loves spending time with her family and friends. Noemia always treats everyone with love and respect and is willing to help anyone she could; she also makes them feel like family. Noemia gained the nickname sissy as literally anyone who ever meets her feels like she could be their big sister. Noemia Soraia’s smile and presence lights up any room she walks into; she is imprinted into anyones heart who has ever met her, she touched so many lives, she inspired so many people, and has made a difference in countless lives. Noemia Soraia is truly and deeply missed by everyone who loves her.
Her funeral will begin at 8:30a.m. on Wednesday, June 8th from Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 291 High St., Pawtucket. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours will be held Tuesday 5:00 – 8:00p.m. Relatives and friends are invited.
