Irwin, Carol A. 76, of Central Falls, died Wednesday July 6, 2022, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
A lifelong resident of Central Falls, she was the third of four children, and the only daughter of the late Harold Raymond and Jeannette Amanda (Racine) Irwin. She grew up on Perry St. and attended Holy Trinity Parochial school.
Prior to being diagnosed with her illness, Carol had retired in December of 2021 from Conrad Jarvis Corp. where she had tirelessly worked for 44 years hand-pairing shoelaces with her coworkers who had become like her second family in the mill on Pawtucket’s cobblestoned Conant Street. Parting ways after so many years was not easy to a woman who liked routine but she thought it was time. Although the joys of retirement were short- lived, she called herself a “tough old bird” in March of 2022, and stretched what was shockingly and unexpectedly predicted to be a “two days to a week” life expectancy to three months, giving her family and friends the gift of just a little more time to spend with her.
Carol was a kind and generous person who enjoyed simple things like doing Search-A- Word puzzles, going out to eat on Saturday afternoons with her family, riding RIPTA to Lincoln Mall, or shopping for gifts. Never one to forget a birthday or holiday, she loved making people feel special by sending cards or picking up items to celebrate. Even in her last days she thought of others first, sending us on errands to get the nurses and CNA’s little presents, and even held an Easter egg hunt for candy in her room. For someone who would often introduce herself as “Carol, like ‘Christmas Carol’”, she truly lived up to the name.
Carol leaves behind her daughter Kimberly Irwin and granddaughter Amanda Irwin, both of Central Falls. She is survived by her older brother Robert R. Irwin, also of Central Falls. She is predeceased by her brothers Harold Raymond Irwin Jr. and Carl D. Irwin.
