Carl Guy Polo
December 3, 1929 - November 22, 2022
Carl Guy Polo, 92, died peacefully at his home in Lincoln, RI. He was predeceased by his parents, Carmine & Susan Polo (Pace), sister Mary Wheeler, and brothers Carmine Jr, William, and Richard Polo. He is survived by by his dear friend and neighbor, Beverly Laplante, three daughters and their husbands: Linda & Edward Sliney of Lincoln, Lauren & Mark Esakoff of Ventura, CA, Leigea & Marc Landry of Bristol, as well as, seven grandchildren: Tyler Sliney, Elizabeth Riel(Sliney), Eric Sliney, Nicole Wright (Landry), Ross Landry, Eva Esakoff, and Audrey Esakoff and seven great-grandchildren: Molly, Colin, and Eleanor Riel, and Henry, Nolan, William, and Nora Sliney.
During his long and full life, he enjoyed attending the theater, concerts, and sports. For many years he was a season ticket holder for Friars hockey and the Boston Ballet. He was also an avid supporter of the college theater programs in Rhode Island. He was fiercely independent and on-the-go in his early years and throughout his eighties, playing indoor ping pong year-round and following multiple outdoor concert schedules in the warm months. Just a few years ago he wouldn't hesitate to make a day trip to Vermont to ski.
As a young man Carl served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He began his career with IBM and achieved many honors as a top salesperson. Over the years he had several entrepreneurial ventures including more than 25 years publishing Hospital News of RI. In all aspects of life, friends and associates would describe him as determined and tenacious - nothing could keep him down.
He was especially proud of his family and their accomplishments, pleasantly referring to himself as the Duke of Dadelonia.
A private memorial will be held at the RI Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lincoln Public Library or Hope Hospice of RI.
