David Pires, 68, a lifelong resident of Central Falls passed away suddenly in his home on January 1, 2023.
He was the son of the late Antonio and Maria Pires, partner of the late Michael “Mickey” Craig. David was one of 5 children. He is survived by a brother Armand Pires and sister Susanne Cournoyer, and predeceased by brother Antonio Pires, Jr. and Anna Pires. In addition to his siblings, he leaves many nieces, nephews for whom he had a special bond.
David was a person who kept to himself and had a strong inner circle. His care for others was well-known and demonstrated through his work with United Cerebral Palsy of Rhode Island and Little Sisters of the Poor. He also worked at Puritan Aerosol, Major Video and retired from Walmart in 2019. David enjoyed the simple pleasures in life- a typical New Englander with his one liners, quick wit, and dry humor.
Throughout his life he was an animal lover and was known to help out animals in need, regularly taking in an animal to care for them. People that knew him well also knew that he was an avid fan of movies. He had an extensive personal collection of movies and enjoyed talking about movies with his friends, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 6th at 11am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Visitation will start at 10am in the church prior to the mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Rhode Island SPCA, 186 Amaral Street Riverside, RI 02915.
