A LIFE WELL LIVED

Alben David Queah Tarty Sr., also known as Daddy, Borbor, Good Friend, A.D.Q., and most commonly, David Tarty, was born on November 28, 1934 in Jaytoken, Palipo District, River Gee County, Liberia to Eyeah Gedekai and Kwayee Tarty. He was the youngest of 13 children. During his early years, David was reared by Mr. and Mrs. William Alfred Tubman (also known as Grace and Bob Willie) in Pleebo, Maryland County. They played a significant role in his upbringing.

David was married to his beloved wife, Cecilia Klaneh Collins Tarty for 62 years, and they had seven children together, while also rearing twelve more as their own.

David was a dedicated and compassionate man who was deeply involved in his native Palipo community. He served as the president of Palipo’s Youth Association from 1971 to 1978, where he worked to mobilize the Palipo community living in Monrovia and advocate for the interests of the “Palipo People” at large. In addition to this work, David also pursued a career in accounting. He studied at the University of Liberia and began his professional career as a clerk at the General Post Office of Liberia. He later worked as a procurement officer for ICA Liberia and then a collection supervisor at Chase Manhattan Bank (which later became Meridian Bank) for over two decades.

Throughout his career, David also found time to teach physics and mathematics night classes at various high schools.

David’s faith was a central part of his life and he began studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1979. He was baptized in Monrovia on April 24, 1981 and went on to serve as a pioneer with the Crown Hill Congregation.
In 1989, David moved to Providence, Rhode Island in the United States, where he served with the Mt. Pleasant Congregation and later the Huntington View Congregation until his death.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind and selfless nature will live on in the memories of his family, friends, and beloved Christian brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cecilia Klaneh Collins Tarty, his children, Hneh Arwin Tarty (Ilene), Willie Edward Tarty Sr., Tuma Albentine Nyemadai Tarty-Tyler (Oliver), Alben David “Bush” Tarty Jr., Sarajane Kotee Tarty-Harris (David), Adolphus Nyemeyou Tarty, Feh Arwonie Tarty (Krista), and a host of other relatives and friends in Liberia and around the United States.

His funeral service will begin saturday, January 7th at 10am in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
