Bruce Michael Corrigan, 75, a lifelong resident of Central Falls, RI, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen (McCann) Corrigan and the WATER Girls after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Central Falls, Bruce, also affectionately known to many as "The Blade" and in his younger years as "Cannonball Corrigan," a nickname given to him by his Little League coach for his skills on the baseball field, was preceded in death by his parents Edward L & Rita (Ford) Corrigan.
He was a 1965 Graduate of Central Falls High School and attended Providence College and Rhode Island Junior College. He is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War Era with deployments to Korea and assigned as Military Police in New York City followed by a year in the army reserve.
Bruce was the first Executive Director of the Central Falls Community Center. He was a retired Firefighter for the City of Central Falls. After his retirement, Bruce was a starter at Chemawa Golf Course in Attleboro, Massachusetts for over 20 years.
An avid New England Sports Fan, his own athletic ability was unmatched, and he excelled in every sport he played throughout his life. Sports came natural to him and much like his father, he was an excellent coach. He coached various youth sports in Central Falls over the years and the Central Falls High School Boys basketball team. He excelled at golf and competed in the Rhode Island State Amateurs Tournament, later giving private lessons to anyone who wanted to learn. A fantastic dancer, Bruce loved music, reading, spending time with his family, and attending any and all activities for his grandchildren. Politics was a passion of his, especially in Central Falls. He was involved in many local and state campaigns over the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five daughters, The WATER Girls. Wendy Byrne and her husband Charles, Amy Corrigan, Tara Corrigan, Erin Corrigan Marquez and her husband Joey, and Ryan Chalmers and her husband Paul; His twelve grandchildren, Tyge & Hailey Joyce, Jarret, Conner, Liam & Kaiden Byrne, Eden, Erica, & JJ Gutierrez, and Jack, Owen, & Finn Chalmers; sons in law Jerry Gutierrez and Timothy Joyce.
He is also survived by his sisters in law and brothers in law, many nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend George Desautell. He is also survived by sister, Sandra Beauchemin.
Calling hours will be Monday, February 6th, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 at 9:30am DIRECTLY at St Matthew’s Church, 1030 Dexter Street, Central Falls, RI. Burial with military honors will be private.
