Superintendent Emeritus Michael Aaron Brown, age 74, passed away Monday January 30, 2023, at home following an illness. Michael was born in Albany, New York on April 7, 1948, to the late Hattie Bell Curtis Brown and late Richard Aaron Brown. Michael was married to the love of his life, Frances H. Madison Brown, for almost 49 years; from this union, they raised three children.

From an early age Michael was called to the ministry, after accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Michael received his ordination in 1974, from the late Bishop O. M. Kelly of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, Providence, RI. Michael continued serving under many great men and women of God. Elder Michael A. Brown’s first pastoral position was as Assistant Pastor under the late Margie Key-Baker of Keys Memorial Church of God in Christ in Newport, RI, where he served faithfully. In 1980, Pastor Brown heeded the call of God on his life and opened Harvest Hope Church of God in Christ in Pawtucket, RI., from this ministry was birthed: Greater Harvest Outreach COGIC and Divine Harvest COGIC. During his service in the ministry at Harvest Hope, he was appointed Superintendent of the Providence District. He was appointed the Jurisdiction Secretary for the Rhode Island Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Church of God in Christ, were he worked with Bishop Soi-Daniel Brown, and later with Bishop Harvey L. Lewis, Sr., Jurisdictional Prelates.

Pastor Brown was a generous and passionate man; many benefited from his kind heart and love. Michael lived Matthew 25 to the fullest through the many charities, he often donated. He was passionate about his work, always encouraging others, supporting missions local and foreign, helping the homeless, feeding the hungry, maintaining a food program and pantry in the community, and hosting annual prayer conferences. Pastor Brown dedicated his life to serving others, often time giving more than he could afford. He firmly believed what the Bible says in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” A strong advocate for the women’s work, the late Supervisor Maria A. Seastrunk named him an honorary member of the RIJ Department of Women. He faithful supported Worldwide Lighthouse Mission (WWLM) in Manchester CT, who distributes aid and assistance across the country and in the foreign fields (Africa, Haiti, India, Philippines, Dominica, Romania). His love for God’s people was priceless.

Michael attended public schools in Rhode Island and in Maine. He was a proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island’s, first Talent Development class, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Michael worked for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Planning Division, retiring after more than 40 years of service. One of his beloved projects was helping with the creation of the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge connecting Jamestown to Newport via Route 138. In his ministry, he continued building bridges in people lives as he guided them to Jesus Christ.

Supt. Emeritus Brown was predeceased in death by his parents Richard Brown and Hattie Brown, brothers Richard Brown Jr. and Charles L. Brown.

Pastor Brown was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be missed by his loving wife Frances, children, Kesha (Vernon) Crawford, Zebedee Brown, Tawana “Jean” Brown. Grandchildren: Jasmine, Michael, Andre, and Liliana. Also left to cherish his memories is a brother; Raymond (Janie) Brown of Wisconsin, a sister; Ruth (Mark) Thomas of Oklahoma, three sisters-in-law, Pastor Paulette (Ray) Veney of New York, Margo Madison Fairrer, and Claudia Madison of California and a dear mother-in-law, Naomi Grandy of California, God Son and God Daughter: Pastors Timothy and Dee Dixon of Florida, his Harvest Hope church family, Rhode Island Jurisdiction family, and a host of family and friends.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his funeral service at 10am on Monday, February 6th 2023 at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Burial will follow.
