Hon. Joseph M. Kollie was born unto the union of Old Man Mulbah Kollie and Kebah K. Kollie in Voinjama District, Lofa County, Republic of Liberia, on the June 16, 1947.
Hon. Kollie grew up with both his parents in Lofa County. Later, his father migrated to Margibi County, Republic of Liberia in search of beHer job to sustain his family. Hon. Joseph M. Kollie had a brother (Desmond S. Kollie) and a sister (Younger Kollie) who predeceased.
Hon. Joseph Kollie began his Primary and Junior EducaOon in Division #25, Firestone, Margibi County, Republic of Liberia. AVer compleOon, he enrolled at the Booker Washington InsOtute (BWI), Kakata, Margibi County, Liberia, where he studied accounOng as Major and Booking Minor. AVer compleOon, he was sent to the Ministry of Finance (Republic of Liberia) for job training, which subsequently resulted to him starOng as a Cadet in 1973. He was later employed as an Accountant and Revenue Collector/Supervisor at the Bureau of Income Tax, Ministry of finance, Republic of
Liberia 1979 to 1980, Hon. Joseph M. Kollie aHended the InsOtute of Public AdministraOon (IPA), where he graduated with Associate degree in AccounOng.
In 1983, the government of Liberia sent Hon. Joseph M. Kollie to West Germany, now Germany for
further studies; where he got cerOficates in other accounOng related disciplines.
Upon his return home, Hon. Joseph M. Kollie was promoted to the posiOon of Deputy
Commissioner for Income Tax by the late President Samuel K. Doe.
Our father served as Deputy Commissioner for Income Tax up to the regime of former
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf unOl his reOrement from government.
AVer his reOrement from government, Hon. Joseph M. Kollie was hired as Financial Consultant at
the Liberia NaOonal Red Cross.
He was bapOzed and confirmed at the St. Stephen Episcopal Church, 10th Street Sinkor, Monrovia,
Liberia.
Hon. Joseph M. Kollie died on Monday, June 19, 2023, at the Miriam Hospital, Providence Rhode
Island aVer a brief illness. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Mrs. Maimai Gaygay Kollie; ten (10)
living children: Mr. Festus T. Kollie, Mrs. Florence Williams, Ms. Josephine Kollie, Addison, Mrs.
Sandra Lomeh Kollie, Ms. Helena Kollie, Mrs. Sonnie O. Kennedy, Ms. Jenneh Kollie, Mrs. PaOence
Gbarteah, Mr. Wille Kollie and Oliver Kollie. The late Mr. Winston Kollie (second of eleven children.Grandchildren: Mrs. Princephina Marshall, Devine Addison, Solomon Addison, Joseph M. Kollie, Joseph Addison, Prince Howe, Maima Howe, Sandra Kollie, Grace Kennedy, Elijah Kennedy, Korvaline Harper, Korvah D, Harper, Joshua J. Yamai, Favor Kennedy, Josephine Lomeh, Sangay Lomeh, Jenneh Lomeh, and Tabitha Addison. And host of relatives in Liberia, the United States of America and around the world. May his soul rest in perfect peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th from 6pm-9pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. His funeral will begin on Saturday, July 8th from the Keefe Funeral Home at 9am. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground Cemetery, Providence.
