Niza E. Diaz, born June 6, 1936 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on November 15, 2023. One of 5 siblings, Niza's story began with a tenacity that marked her youth. She displayed an entrepreneurial flair that led her to establish her own business at a young age. After graduating, she began her career as a secretary then later ventured into the culinary world, opening her own cafe, where she met the love of her life, the late Hugo Diaz.

In the 1960s, Niza left Ecuador to come to the United States seeking new horizons and opportunities, and paved the way for the rest of her family to settle in Providence, RI. It was during this transformative period that she married her husband, forging a bond of love that would endure throughout their lives.

Her heart knew no boundaries, and she became a motherly figure to everyone she encountered. Niza’s love was unconditional and she expressed it in a myriad of ways. She was a lover of life, finding joy in dance, music, singing and fashion. She was happiest in the kitchen preparing Ecuadorian dishes for everyone. Her heart extended to the animal kingdom, as she harbored tremendous love for her furry companions especially her beloved turtle, Georgi.

She retained a deep connection to her roots, often reminiscing about the beauty of Ecuador, she often shared memories of her time on the beaches with her sister forming an unbreakable bond that defined their lives.

Niza's faith was unwavering, and she found solace in the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which provided her with strength and guidance throughout her life. Very active in the Church, Niza was loved by everyone for her dedication and kindness. She especially enjoyed expressing her devotion through song, as she loved to sing hymns during church gatherings. The warmth of her spirit resonated with fellow church members, who reciprocated her love with equal affection and admiration.

A beacon of love, generosity, and unwavering strength, Niza life’s journey was a testament to her indomitable spirit and remarkable character. Niza had an unshakable sense of humor, bringing laughter to those around her even during her final days.
