Born in Praia, Cape Verde Islands, Maria was the daughter of Joana Almeida and Mateus Lopes Almeida, both parents reside in Paiol Praia. She leaves behind a daughter Jessica Turmel, age 13, a son Rosario Almeida age 14, and an adopted son, Erick Daveiga, age 7, five sisters and six brothers: Cthinina, Bela and Calu in USA, Chiquinho, Gima and Ze in Cape Verde, Kim, Ze Munaia and Maria Lina in Portugal, Cheia and Dje in Holland, uncles Meno and Mario in USA, Nhonho in Holland, Toto and lili in Portugal, Lucio and Eva in Cape Verde, and Aunts Lina in Holland, Niza in Cape Verde. Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln RI 02865. Maria will be transported to Cabo Verde on Tuesday April 5, 2011 where the formal burial will take place.
