On Saturday January 27 our mother Mary Lucille Jarrett - Lucille to close friends and family - left us to go home to be with the Lord and her ancestors. Her wish was to be able to leave us in her home and we were able to grant her wish as she passed away from her home of more than 50 years.
Lucille was born in Hammond, La. on October 6, 1938 to Russell Styles of Hammond, La. and Delma Addison Styles of Dallas, Tx. - both deceased. Her husband of 35 plus years, Truman E. Jarrett took his journey home before her in 2016.
Lucille had three children from her previous marriage to Andrew C. Harry, Joycelyn Andrea Harry, Andrew Charles Harry, Jr, and Jarvis Anson Harry who left us in 1982. Through her children she has five grandchildren, Leah Marie Threats, Charisma Marie Wilson, Nicole Courtney Harry, Michael-Anthone Joseph Harry, and Christina Jade Harry as well as 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Johari Holden Bankston of Berkley, Ca. and Elois Styles Robinson of Harvey, Il.
Her marriage to Truman brought four more children into her family, William L.Jarrett - deceased August 2020 - Toni D. Stokes, Regina M. Jarrett, and Lance C. Jarrett in addition to 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She graduated from the Greenville Park Negro High School in 1957 where as a senior she played basketball and was the Home Coming Queen while picking strawberries in the fields of Hammond. Once she moved to Rhode Island she started her employment as a housekeeper, eventually becoming a machinist in the Laborers Union and finally a Teacher’s Assistant for the Providence School District.
Lucille was a deeply religious person who attended various churches at different points in her life as well as serving in multiple positions from Ladies Auxiliary to Choir Director. She was also a Zeta Amicae of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. But most of all, Lucille was a loving beautiful angel who’s laugh and smile made people want to know her! She was truly loved by all who had the privilege to enter her world.
Our family invites you to join us in saying goodbye to our matriarch. A memorial service will be held this Saturday February 3rd at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI 02865. Viewing will be held from 9:00am to 10:00am and service from 10:00am to 12:00noon followed by burial in North Burial Ground, Providence. A celebration of life will start at 1:00pm at St. Martin Deporres Center, 160 Cranston St., Providence, RI 02907.
