Bridgette Gutierrez, a loving wife, and mother died early morning Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, at her home. She was 93. She leaves a son, Roland (Shane); daughter, Yvonne, and her husband Brian; and grandson, Gage. Mom was wonderful. Her faith in the lord and her family were the most important aspects of her life. She was the ideal military wife, strong and enduring the trials and tribulations of constantly having to create a new home almost on a yearly basis. Keeping us kids in order, helping us adapt to our new schools and surroundings couldn’t have been easy. Yet, she made it seem easy. Mom really blossomed when dad’s new orders stationed him overseas. She wanted to see and experience everything each country had to offer.

Another benefit to her and us children was, the overseas postings kept dad mostly home and not at sea. I know mom felt we were always a complete family, but having dad mostly home made a huge difference for her.

As I sit here thinking of her, I understand now that she lived her life for us. This from the 1st Sermon of Vincent Van Gogh (1876). “On the road walks a pilgrim, staff in hand. He has been walking for a good long while already and he is very tired. And now he meets a woman, or figure in black, that makes one think of St. Paul’s word: As being sorrowful yet always rejoicing

(2 Corinthians 6:10). That Angel of God has been placed there to encourage the pilgrims and to answer their questions, and the pilgrim asks her: Does the road go uphill, then all the way? And the answer is: Yes, to the very end….” With a heavy heart, I write these words for our mom. She fought a good fight. Mom was well loved and will be sorely missed. Burial will be private.
