Norma (Bessette) Rodrigues, 86, of Manville, formally of Cumberland, died peacefully at home May 10, surrounded by loving family. She was the beloved wife of Alfred Rodrigues Jr. for the last 63 years.
Born in Central Falls, RI, she was the youngest of seven children, of whom all departed before her, of the late Oliver and Dora (Brais) Bessette.
In earlier years she loved to vacation at Old Orchard Beach with her family and enjoyed bus trips to places like Pennsylvania Dutch with her husband. Every Sunday, since their children were young, they went for car rides, driving for hours at a time, sometimes not knowing where they were.
She worked at Hasbro Industries for 40+ years where she met her husband, Alfred. After retiring she worked as a school bus monitor for Cumberland schools. She loved seeing the children every day.
Everyone knew about all her collections, including iron pencil sharpeners, panda bears, and salt and pepper shakers just to name a few.
She was the most stubborn person you ever met but everyone she met loved her. What she loved most was her family. Her response to I love you, was always, I hate you. She was a jokester and joked until her last day. She would always tell us, never get old.
Besides her husband, she leaves behind her children, Connie Rose and husband Brian, Alfred III, Oliver Rodrigues and wife Rhonda and Laura Mathieu and husband Mike. Nine grandchildren, Kayla, Kristopher, Adrionna, Alexander, Zachary, Ian, Ryan, Tyler, Alyson and Adaline, as well as eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She did not fear death and in her last days told her mom and dad she was coming to see them. She was well loved and will never be forgotten.
Friends and family can pay their respects on Thursday, May 16th from 4:00 - 7:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI. Burial is private.
