Laura Maria Socorro Teixeira Barbosa Amado, a beloved matriarch and treasured member of her family, passed away peacefully at the age of 108 on June 4, 2024, in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Born on March 28, 1916, in the village of São Jorge, in Fogo, Cape Verde, Laura lived a life that spanned over a century, witnessing profound changes and experiencing a wealth of history.

Laura's life was marked by her dedication to her family. Known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering faith, she was a pillar of support for those around her. She married Casimiro Barbosa Amado, and together they raised their children, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and the importance of family.

Laura's sewing and craft skills were renowned. She found great joy in creating gifts for her loved ones. Laura had a wonderful sense of humor, which brought laughter and light to her family. She was a storyteller, sharing tales of the old days with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ensuring that the rich heritage would be passed down through the generations.
Laura is survived by her children and their spouses: Joao Filipe Barbosa Amado and Laura Fontes Barbosa Amado, Isabel Barbosa Amado Alves and Joao Alves, Fausto Filipe Montrond Barbosa and Maria Eduarda Barbosa Amado Barbosa, and Mariana Barbosa Amado Brandao, along with 31 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will carry her legacy forward. She will be remembered for her kind smile, generosity, unwavering love for her family, and delightful sense of humor.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI, on Friday, June 7th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 8th, starting at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 291 High St., Pawtucket, RI. Laura will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Casimiro, at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, 661 Prospect St., Pawtucket, RI.
