Born on March 28, 1928, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Alma Allen was the daughter of the late Carrie (Harris) and Daniel McFadden. She moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 1962 where she built a home with her family. Alma, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, was called home by the Lord on June 10, 2024. Alma became a devoted member of Congdon Street Baptist Church shortly after moving to Rhode Island and remained an active member for over five decades. She faithfully served on Congdon St. Gospel Chorus, lifting her voice in praise and worship. Additionally, Alma dedicated herself to the church community by serving as an usher for more than 40 years. Her commitment and service were a testament to her unwavering faith and love for her church family.
Known for her impeccable fashion sense, Alma delighted in dressing with style. Her love for singing in the gospel chorus was only matched by her passion for reading her Bible. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and her church community, with her "sock it to me" cake and banana pudding becoming legendary favorites. At 96 years old, Alma was a very sharp individual who lived independently. She enjoyed traveling and going on adventures with her great-grandkids, like camping. Family was the center of Alma's world. She leaves behind her daughter, Phyllis Lamidi, along with four cherished grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Alma was predeceased in death by her dear daughter, Beverly Cadet.
For over forty years, Alma shared a deep and loving bond with David Carter, enriching both their lives and the lives of their grandchildren.She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss her presence. Throughout her life, Alma was known for her formidable spirit, good sense of humor, and unwavering support for her loved ones. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. They will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
A Service in Celebration of Alma’s life will be held on Friday, June 14th, at Congdon Street Baptist Church at 17 Congdon St, Providence, RI at 10am. Alma burial will be held privately on Thursday, June 13th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Alma's memory.
