John, a cherished soul known for his kind, loving, and humorous personality, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 11, 1957, John lived a life filled with love and laughter.
Raised in a military family, John moved frequently during his childhood, spending time in Italy and Boston, where he even ran in the Boston Marathons. Eventually, he made Cumberland, Rhode Island, his home. John was a very intelligent man who built a successful career in IT before retiring. In his free time, he was an avid reader, music lover, devoted sports fan, animal enthusiast, and a consummate jokester. His quick wit and joy for life were infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to brighten someone's day with a good joke.
John embodied the finest qualities: unconditional love, inner strength, and an unwavering positivity toward all people. He firmly believed in making a difference and paying it forward. One of John's favorite places was the beach, but above all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends. He was the biggest supporter of everyone in his life.
John is predeceased by his parents, Mary (Parsons) DeBolt and Eldred DeBolt, and his granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Gois. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Faith Alice (Gorman) DeBolt, and his wonderful children: John DeBolt Jr., Jamie DeBolt (Tommy Saccocio), Christopher DeBolt, and Faith Mary DeBolt (Rene Gois). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Hayli DeBolt, Emma DeBolt, and great-granddaughter Aaliyah, his brothers, Joe DeBolt (Patti DeBolt) and James DeBolt (Ann DeBolt) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his two dogs, Milo and Cody.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday September 17th at 10am at St. Joseph's Church, 1303 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI. Please meet directly at the church. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Centers or to Cancer research and awareness. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to HopeHealth Hospice for the compassionate and respectful care during John's short time there.
