Michael Davis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and respected federal law enforcement officer, passed away on November 6, 2024. Born on July 10, 1952, to the late George and Earline Davis at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia, Michael moved to Providence, Rhode Island, in 1964. He attended Mary E. Fogarty School, Nathan Bishop Middle School, and Classical High School, later continuing his education at Thomas Nelson Community College.
A dedicated patriot, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy on July 10, 1969, later joining the Army Reserve, and served his country with distinction during the Vietnam War. His service earned him honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Army Recruiting Badge. During his military tenure, Michael was a crew member on the UH-1 and an Air Observer on the OH-6 helicopters, later becoming an Aircraft Mechanic.

After his military service, Michael built a distinguished career in federal law enforcement with the Department of Justice, retiring as a supervisor. His work took him around the world, exemplifying his dedication to justice and service. He attended the Federal Law Enforcement Academy and the Immigration & Naturalization Service Academy and served as a liaison to various police training committees, including the Maryland State Police Criminal Investigation and Tidewater Criminal Justice Academy. Michael received numerous Outstanding Performance Ratings throughout his career.
In addition to his professional achievements, Michael was Rhode Island’s first Black Civil Air Patrol Cadet and later earned his commercial pilot’s license. He was also deeply committed to martial arts, achieving a First-Degree Black Belt in Kun Tau Karate and a Third-Degree Black Belt in Kuk Mu Kwan Karate, along with studying Kung Fu in Naples, Italy.
Michael’s life was rich with family and love. He was predeceased by his son, Benjamin Davis, his parents, and his sister, Debra Davis. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Joy Davis; his sons Michael Davis Jr., Johnathan Davis, and Patrick Davis; his stepdaughter Stephanie Kayla Dodd; his brother Timothy Davis; and his sisters Michelle Franco and Jacqueline Davis. He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who will remember him fondly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 from 9am-11am with a funeral home service starting at 11am in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
