Wanda Carvalho Alves, age 90, died Monday, March 3, 2025 peaceful at St. Luke’s hospital located in New Bedford, MA.

Wanda was born on September 18, 1934 in Sao Miguel Azores Portugal she was known as the sweetest woman. She was loved and respected by all - family, friends, and colleagues. She graduated from the Liceu Ponta Delgada where she started her career as a teacher in the Azores. She then moved on to working for the Camara Municipal de Ponta Delgada as a Director of Deeds.

She moved to America in the 1960s after she married her high school sweetheart, the late Stelvio Alves. Together they first settle in Central Falls, RI and began their life together. Wanda started her career as a Portuguese teacher for East Providence Public Schools and then became Head Teller at the Bank of Hospital Trust and now known as Bank of America.

Wanda is survived by her son, Manuel Alves, daughter-in-law, Adriana Alves, granddaughter, Brianna Farias and grandson-in-law, Dwayne Farias. She is also survived by many cousins from Sao Miguel Azores.

Visitation will be held on Friday March 7, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, R.I., followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
