It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce that Roger Manuel Medeiros, lovingly known as “Papa,” has entered eternal life. Born and raised in Providence, he was the son of Doris and Manuel Medeiros. Welcoming him at Heaven’s door was his beloved daughter, Lynette, who he missed dearly and thought of often; his parents aka Meme and Pop; his nephews, Jeremy Schwartz and Domenic Izzi Jr.; and his horse Squire; and other family members and friends.
Roger was previously married to Margie Medeiros for 25 years and together they raised their family. They demonstrated a friendship that was built on years of kindness, support, and compassion when it was needed the most. They shared a lifetime of treasured memories with their children and grandchildren.
Roger was the devoted father to Dawn Martins and her husband Jimmy, Kathy Palumbo and her husband David, who adored him as he adored them. The relationship he shared with his daughters was truly an extraordinary one based on unconditional love, trust, and endless support. Both daughters jokingly claimed to be his “favorite”, but we all know it was the grandchildren who stole that title years ago. He had eight grandchildren who were his greatest treasures: Jimmy Martins Jr., Nicholas Martins, Lauren Martins, Adam Palumbo, Jack Martins, Alec Palumbo, Alia Palumbo, and Angelo Palumbo. He was also joyfully awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild Nico in June. He always said his favorite people call him Papa and Papa’s heart was big enough to make them all feel like they were his favorite. He poured his heart into their lives. He attended every sporting event, dance recital, school play, first day of school, and graduations from Preschool to the Military. He was there for every single milestone for each of them. He was always up to some sort of shenanigan with the kids, and his mischievous grin and sparkle in his eyes hinted trouble, fun and adventure were just around the corner.
Roger was the loving brother to Eloise Branch, Lois Izzi, and Elise Schwartz. He was the devoted uncle to Eloise Ricci, Robert Branch, LoAnn Natale, Joseph Schwartz, John Schwartz III, Jacqueline Jesus, and Jesse Schwartz; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was the brother-in-law to Stan Kraus. He was also a close friend to many, with a particularly special bond with Sandi and Patrick Coyle, they shared a unique friendship, one with a connection he cherished.
Roger served his country as an Airman in the United States Air Force, his dedication and skill were recognized and respected and he was considered an asset by his superiors. He held various jobs including and not limited to roofing, mechanics and towing until he began a successful career working for the state. His work ethic and dedication earned him the admiration of all who knew him. His curiosity and compassion for others inspired him to return to college later in life earning a degree as a Practical Nurse, proving that his kindness and determination knew no limits.
Roger found peace and happiness in the great outdoors. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, of course that was before the kids came along; after all, you can’t put a car seat on a Harley. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, a day at the range and a variety of countless memorable excursions with his family and friends. He was a Range Officer and proud member of the NRA with a commitment to safety and excellence. Roger was a man of remarkable strength, wisdom, and generosity. He was a true jack of all trades but those who knew him would say he was a master of all. He enjoyed building and fixing all kinds of things. He took pride in guiding and teaching others. He was there, without hesitation or complaint, to help any of us. He was beyond generous. His quiet strength, sharp mind and unwavering kindness left an unforgettable impact on us. He lived a fulfilled life on his terms with lots of love and experiences. He was a very wise man and always had a story to share. He lived fearlessly and loved us all fiercely. His memory will live on through the hearts of his family, friends, and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. We were the luckiest!
Love you forever and ever again
