Robert William Sumner, 62 of Providence RI, departed this life on Sunday April 13, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and community.

Big Rob was born in Providence on April 6, 1963 to the late Roger L Sumner and Dorlean (Robbins) Sumner. He was one of 8 children. Big Rob was a lifelong resident of Providence. He attended the Providence School System and graduated from Central High School.

He was an amazing handyman and could do anything. At his passing, he was the Project Manager for Providence Air B and B, where he managed and maintained several units for them. He was an avid fisherman and loved to take care of his family. He was an adjunct member of Beloved Tabernacle who rarely attended services but was always available to complete maintenance and care of the church.

In addition to his parents, Big Rob is predeceased by His brothers; Jerry Sumner James Sumner and Sister; Nicole Sumner Walker. Nephews: Eric Walker and Dean Walker.

To mourn his loss, and celebrate his life, Big Rob leaves his cherished son and namesake, Robert William Stanley (Evelyn) of Providence , His son Isaac Tallo of Providence; His beloved daughter Rachquel Stanley, His Brother; Roger Sumner. Sisters; Vivian Sumner(John Eaddy), Dorisann Sumner (Carl McPherson) and Antonia(Tiny) Sumner as well as his special niece Starria Fortes, his granddaughters; Harmony Stanley, Zumiyah Davis, Nariyah Davis, as well as Rene Stanley, his children’s mother and the person he shared the care of his granddaughters with, all of Providence. Robert(Big Rob) leaves several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, that were all his favorites, as well as cousins, extended family and friends that will greatly miss him but appreciate the time they were able to share with him.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Beloved Tabernacle of God Church, 628 Union Ave. Providence, RI from 10am-11am followed by a service starting at 11am. Burial private.
