It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Shirley Marie Hayhurst (Petras) 90. She passed away peacefully April 29th at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Fall River, Ma. to Dolores Baptista Petras and Antonio Ramos.
She loved her home of many years and found peaceful pleasures of nature as a resident of Harmony, RI. She was employed in the accounting department at Rhode Island Hospital until she retired. Although retired she never stood still and volunteered her time at the Johnston Senior Center working in the gift store making and enjoying her new friends.
She leaves her brother, Herman Petras of New York, the late Joyce Mattos of Fall River, Ma. the late Lois Margetta of California, and Charles Petras, his wife Elaine, of Cumberland, RI.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her eight children, Shirley Bogoian, her husband George, the late Charles Hayhurst, the late Daniel Hayhurst, Betty Easton, Dolores Pearson, her husband Steve, Michael Hayhurst, his partner Joanne Armoush, the late Linda Hayhurst, and Paul Hayhurst, his wife Jenny.
She was a proud grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her fifteen grandchildren, David, Linda, Charles, Justin, Katie, Adam, Barrett, Steven, Laura, Brian, Seth, Jessica, Christopher, Chase and Cole and her sixteen great-grandchildren. She has left them with love, laughter and memories.
A private family service will be held to honor Shirley Hayhurst.
The family is deeply grateful for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
