34, was born November 8, 1976 in the Republic of Cape Verde. At the age of 8, John and his family immigrated to the U.S where he resided in Brockton, MA for 11 years. At the age of 19 John joined the US Army where he served honorably for 4 years. Upon his return from service, John moved to Rhode Island where he met and married Andrea Fontes. John passed away in an auto accident in the early morning hours of July 9, 2011. John was known for his great sense of humor, kind heart and deep passion to help others. In his twenties, John traveled to Africa and Cape Verde in on church missions to assist the hungry and less fortunate. He was known to his friends as "Peppa", an endearing name given to him in his childhood. John served on the Annual Cape Verdean Sub-committee as well as Pop Warner football as a coach.
John loved life and gave of himself unconditionally. He was a lovable person who always had a kind word or offered a helping hand. He was a skilled craftsman, talented artist, creative thinker and a brilliant inventor.
John was employed with Quick Fitting, East Providence, RI as a Sr. Manager in their production and product development department. Prior to joining the Quick Fitting family, John was employed for 6 years as a Sr. Technician at Bally's Fitness, East Providence, RI.
John is survived by his twin sons, ex-wife Andrea Fontes, sister's Antonia Pires , Graciete Pires, Isidora Pires, and brother Jose Pires, father Pedro Pires a citizen of Cape Verde and mother Elia Afonso currently residing in Brockton, Ma.
Funeral services will be held at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI 02865 Thursday July 14, 2011 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.
