"Dabeto" was born on September 25th, 1936 to Amelia Manuel Goncalves and Alvaro Tavares on the Island of Brava in Cabo Verde.

Dabeto welcomed his first child, Bela Goncalves in Brava in 1958. He moved to the United States in 1961 and lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts; but, he lived most of his adult life in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

In 1962, he met Josefina Gomes. They married in 1965 and were together for 17 years. To this union, two children were born: Marinella ("Nellie") and Adalberto ("Daby") II.

In 1998, Dabeto reconnected with his first love Elisa Tavares and married her in 1999. They later moved to Kissimmee, Florida and shared 12 wonderful years together.

Dabeto worked for several companies, but retired from Mossberg Industries Inc., in 2001.

Dabeto loved life and having a good time with family and friends! He especially enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in his native language; Kriolu. He also enjoyed traveling to Cabo Verde. He loved the ocean, swimming and playing cards with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for putting a smile on everyone's face with his stories and jokes.

Dabeto passed away on Wednesday, August 24th 2011, peacefully at home with his wife, Elisa and daughters Nellie and Nicole by his side. He was preceded in death by his mother Amelia Manuel Goncalves and his father Alvaro Tavares.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife Elisa Goncalves; brothers, Joau Jaquin Tavares, Carlos Antonio Tavares and Alvaro Tavares; daughters Bela DeSousa; Marinella "Nellie" Goncalves; Nicole Santos; his sons, Adalberto "Daby" Goncalves II, Ulisses Oliveira and son-in-law Ernesto Santos. Three grandchildren: Sophia Askew-Goncalves, Xavier Askew-Goncalves, and Phillip Santos. He leaves a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends from Cabo Verde, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, California and beyond!

Dabeto leaves us with many great memories. His smile and spirit will live within us forever and ever.

A viewing of the body will be held at the Keefe Funeral Home, on Friday, September 2, 2011 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45am from the funeral home followed by Memorial Services at 10am at St. Anthony's Church located at 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket RI.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Donations can also be made at www.pancreaticcancerfoundation.com.
