Born in Pawtucket, a son of Irene (Johnson) Desautel of Central Falls and the late Ernest Desautel.
He had been employed by Electric Boat for many years and then worked for Bamsi-STI. Ernie was an avid sports fan and coached various youth sports.
Besides his mother he is survived by a daughter, Allison Lachapelle of Woonsocket. Eight siblings, David and wife Emily of Cumberland, Thomas Desautel of Central Falls, Michael and wife Susan of Cumberland, Jeffrey and wife Ana of Pawtucket, Earl and wife Tina of Seekonk, Scott and wife Sharon of Lincoln, Debra Beaudoin and husband Eugene of Central Falls and Kathleen Bailey and husband Karl of Johnston as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited, calling hours Wednesday 5-8pm
