Born on the island of Brava, Cape Verde on January 1940, Maria migrated to the US in 1981 along with her husband Manuel Monteiro, her sons Osvaldo, Carlos, and Roberto as well as her daughters Carmen Vieira-Monteiro, Cesarina Elias, Ivonilda Burgess, and her late daughter Fatima Monteiro.
Maria and Manuel recently celebrated 51 yrs of love and matrimony. The two of them were inseparable. Together, they raised their seven children.
Maria loved life, loved her family, and enjoyed the smell of fresh flowers, the warm sun on her skin, and the laughter of her children, grand children, and great-grand children. Her favorite color was lilac, which stood for love, happiness in life, and contentment. She also loved singing church hymns. At times would even make up her own hymns. She enjoyed the book of Psalms. The 23rd Psalm was her favorite passage.
Today she is singing in heaven with God's holy angels and in the embrace of her mother, Cezarina, and daughter, Fatima.

Ps 23:6 "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of The Lord forever."

Her funeral will be held Saturday at 10am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a funeral service in Embaixadores Church of the Nazarene, 194 Barton St, Pawtucket at 11am. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, East Providence. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8pm
